It started on top of Mt. Whitney.

I trained for six months for Mt. Whitney. Early mornings, long weekends on the trail, a lot of miles nobody else saw. Then I was standing on top, holding the sign at 14,505 feet, and it hit me harder than I expected. I got emotional up there.

On the way down I kept asking myself how to celebrate that. A photo would end up buried in my camera roll with everything else. I wanted something I could actually carry... something that said I was there, every time I headed out again.

So I turned my summit photo into a charm, cut to my outline with the sign still in my hands, and clipped it to my hydration vest. It's been on every hike since. Every time I see it, I'm back on top.
